Dr. Will Holland Senior VP, Care Management & CMIO
Will Holland has been with Banner for over two decades and is double board certified in Family Medicine and Informatics. He has served in a host of front-line physician and leadership roles over that time and enjoys helping to support and develop other leaders. When not working, he enjoys time with his family including coaching his children’s softball and baseball teams.
Dr. Tayna Kne Senior Director, CMO Risk & Post Acute
Tanya Kne began her career over twenty years ago as an emergency medicine physician at Banner Desert where she also served in multiple medical staff leadership roles. She continued her leadership journey becoming the CMO at Banner Desert in 2012. She transitioned into her current system roles with the onset of the pandemic in March 2020. She loves to lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams. She strives for balance in her life with running, her Peloton bike, travel and Notre Dame football.
Dr. Nirav Patel Medical Director, Surgical/Clinical Resource
Nirav Patel has been with Banner for 11 years, is a as a Trauma, Acute Care/Surgical Critical Care Surgeon at the Banner University Medical Center- Phoenix, an Associate Prof. of Surgery, University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix and the Medical Director for Surgical and Procedural Services for Banner Health. Professional areas of interest include development of value-based surgical and procedural systems incorporating innovation, data analytics, ML/AI, establishment of trauma and minimal invasive surgery programs in LMIC countries. In his personal time he enjoys restoring cars, high performance driving and travelling with family.
Dr. Dana Kosmala Executive Director, Care Management & Acute CMIO
Dana Kosmala has been employed by Banner since 2014 and worked as a contracted physician in Banner Emergency Departments for several years prior to that. She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Clinical Informatics. In her role as Associate CMIO, she strives to streamline and automate processes to allow physicians and providers to maximize time caring for patients. She is a graduate of Banner’s Advanced Leadership for Physicians course and recently graduated from the first Banner Rising course for leaders. When not working, she enjoys travelling with her family, attending local baseball and basketball games, and reading mystery novels, memoirs, and biographies.
Dr. Scott Sharples Executive Director, Care Management & Ambulatory CMIO
Scott Sharples, MD is a physician executive who drives transformation and continuous improvement in healthcare. He is board-certified in Family Medicine and Clinical Informatics. He has experience in Clinical Research and teaches in the University of Arizona Department of Biomedical Informatics. With his experience in the clinical, operational, and financial aspects of medicine, he understands the landscape and the hurdles in the way of safe, high-quality, rewarding care. Scott is a graduate of Banner’s Advanced Leadership for Physicians program and continues to volunteer as a peer coach in Leadership Development programs. In 2022, Scott graduated from the first Banner Rising program. Serving as Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer for Banner, he focuses on ways we can apply technology to improve care for Sofia, as well as ways we can improve the experience of providing that safe, high-quality care. Through unbridled curiosity, courage, and building diverse, creative teams, he believes we can meet our strategic goals and live up to our Mission.
Dr. Michael Simons Medical Director, Telehealth
Dr. Michael Simons presently serves the Medical Director of Banner Telehealth. In this capacity, he is charged with serving as a resource for medical matters, as well as working with his administrative dyad partner to develop those strategies, policies and practices to ensure the highest quality and efficacy for existing and putative Telehealth programs. He has served in this capacity since October 2017. Dr. Simons also serves as the physician executive for Banner’s Critical Care Clinical Consensus Group (CCG), which functions as the repository of clinical expertise for this discipline. Dr. Simons joined Banner Health in 2006, after completing his Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He currently continues to practice clinically in Banner’s Tele -ICU program. Dr. Simons is married with no children and enjoys travel, reading and photography in his spare time.
Dr. Bethany Bruzzi Senior Director, CMO Clinical Efficiency
Dr. Bruzzi is the Chief Medical Officer of Clinical Efficiency for the Tucson Market. In this role, her focus is on length of stay, throughput, utilization, transitions of care and provider satisfaction. In addition, she acts as the executive lead for BUMGT medical directors and BUMGT hospitalists. She also serves as the Hospital Medicine Executive Sponsor after serving as the lead for several years. She graduated the Advanced Leadership for Physicians and started the advocacy graduate track for the program. Dr. Bruzzi gladly accepted the role of Chief Medical Officer of the South Campus in 2019. During her time in this role, the hospital improved CMS scores by one-star, improved Leapfrog ratings to A’s and received the Top Loan Institute Hospital. Dr. Bruzzi remains on faculty as a Board-Certified Family Medicine Hospitalist and assistant professor. She was named Tucson’s 20/20 “Woman of the Year” and has received three Banner Health Amazement awards. She is currently working towards completion of her MBA at UA Eller College of Management. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, SCUBA diving and playing with her dog Penelope.
Dr. Gordon Carr Senior Director, CMO Clinical Outcomes
Gordon Carr has been with Banner since 2016. He is board certified in Critical Care Medicine. Prior to serving is his current role as CMO – Clinical Outcomes for the Tucson Market, he held multiple other physician leadership roles including MICU medical director, Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, and co-founder of the Interstitial Lung Disease Program at the University of Arizona and BUMCT. He is a Certified Professional in Patient Safety. When not working, he enjoys hiking and exploring around Tucson, playing music, and learning about aviation with his two sons.
Brian Weirich Executive Director, Care Management & CNIO
Brian Weirich rejoined Banner in 2020 after spending two years moonlighting in the NOCO intensive care units in 2014. Brian has spent the last twelve years in leadership roles. Brian has a Doctorate degree in Health Administration, a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration and a Bachelor degree in nursing. Brian is certified in Executive Nursing Practice and has a certification in Artificial Intelligence from Northwestern’s Kellogg school of business. Brian is an author/speaker often arguing for the importance of the millennial “tech” generation. He is a co -author of the book, THE NURSES GUIDE TO INNOVATION. In 2017, he began exploring artificial intelligence and crowd sourcing along with the benefits of gig economy workforces to solve existing problems. Brian is active in the healthcare startup community where he advises and sits on boards for small tech startups. He is a recipient of the Advancement in Medicine innovation grant; from IU School of Medicine and a founding member of the Society of Nurse Scientists Innovators Entrepreneurs & Leaders. Brian says coming out of the pandemic is an opportunity for a "new build" instead of a "re build". When not working, Brian and his wife Lauren (also a nurse) and their five children Autumn, Tenley, River, Asher, and Brighton, enjoy everything about the outdoors and can often be found on a trail or mountainside having family adventures.
Joan Ivaska Executive Director, Infection Prevention, SPCS & CSPD
Joan Ivaska has been with Banner for nearly 19 years and is board certified in infection prevention and epidemiology. Throughout her career, Joan has served in a variety of leadership roles in infection prevention and epidemiology, quality and patient safety, regulatory, occupational health, and hospital administration. In her free time, Joan enjoys gourmet cooking and baking, gardening, hiking, traveling with her husband, and spoiling her two little grandsons.
Chris Forman-Goerke Executive Director, Quality, Safety, Regulatory & Peer Review
Chris Forman-Goerke has been a Banner team member for over 10 years, serving in various Quality leadership roles. She enjoys helping others use data to tell their Quality and Safety story to drive improvement. When not working, she loves to spend time outdoors and with her family.
Debby Bonnell Associate VP, Value Based Programs, Registeries, MACRA & CVO
Debby Bonnell has been with Banner for over 17 years. She has worked in several capacities within nursing, including ICU/SWAT nurse and Director of Nursing. Through Banner’s ARC process, she has been given several fun and challenging opportunities, including starting the Regulatory Incentive department. She is married and has 3 grown children and 1 grand-daughter. She loves spending time traveling to beaches, and enjoying outdoor activities with family and friends.
Paris LaBruzzo Senior Director, QI Regulatory & Licensing
Paris LaBruzzo started with Banner as a Regulatory Consultant in January 2018 and transitioned to the Regulatory Director in January 2020. Paris is passionate about regulatory compliance because it is uniquely tied to patient safety and quality while also a critical function of business operations. In addition to her role at Banner, Paris gets to further apply her regulatory compliance passion by teaching undergraduate Healthcare Compliance and Regulation students at Arizona State University. Outside of work, Paris enjoys watching her son play tee ball, spending time with family and all the outside beauty that Arizona has to offer – at least until June! Rita Peck Senior Director, Clinical Engagement Rita Peck has spent over 20 years at Banner, serving in multiple areas within the organization such as the I/T Support Desk, NextGen Implementation & Training and Care Management. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her adorable dog, Phoebe, and loves cheering on her son & daughter at their various sporting events.
Kerri Bolstad Senior Director of Simulation (Arizona Market)
Kerri is Senior Director over Banner Simulation and Training, AZ Market including: Banner Corporate Center Mesa, SimET located @ BUMCP, BUMCT- South Campus and the Training Center for BLS, ACLS, and PALS. These system teams provide training opportunities for both internal and external customers across the enterprise, using a variety of innovative modalities. As a leader with over 25 years of nursing experience in a wide range of roles within Banner Health, she is excited to be a part of a dynamic team that is as dedicated and focused on patient safety and Sophia as she is.
Rochelle Tolliver Senior Director, Clinical Informatics
Rochelle Tolliver has been with Banner for nine years. Her background in IT and Informatics spans two and a half decades serving in various roles that support the Perioperative service line. Off the clock, she enjoys spending time with her husband of nearly 30 years and helping to facilitate the activities at the assisted living facility where her mother resides.
Carrie Brandon Senior Director, Simulation (Western Division), Patient Education & CME
As a Simulation Sr. Director, Carrie has leadership and operational responsibilities for the Banner Simulation Center: Western Division, Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Patient Education. These system teams provide services to our internal and external customers in 6 states including both large acute care facilitates and smaller critical access facilities. As a seasoned leader, internal consultant, registered nurse, and simulation specialist with nearly 30 years of healthcare experience at Banner Health, Carrie has served in several roles across the system. She is excited to be part of these amazing teams and looks forward to what the future holds in our ever-changing healthcare landscape.
Sherri Madolid Senior Director, Regulatory Incentive Programs
Sherri Madolid joined Banner Boswell Medical Center as a new grad nurse in 1998. Since then, she looked to expand her knowledge within the acute environment serving in many roles, including med/surg, PCU, ICU, leadership, and infection prevention. Sherri joined the Regulatory Incentive team in 2019 and has found a passion for developing strategy around regulatory reporting for Banner. Being a lifelong learner, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Healthcare Systems in 2023. When not at work, Sherri enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, staying active and hiking, country dancing, and baking sourdough bread.
Carisa Bamford Senior Director, Physician Development & Experience Carisa serves as the Senior Director of the Banner Health Physician and APP Experience and Development Team. This team supports engaging, inspiring and equipping providers in the delivery of their care through an intentional focus on their ongoing growth, development, and career aspirations; in tandem with an approach to improve well-being and reduce burnout. This team is part of Banner’s transformational promise to make working in healthcare easier, so life can be better for physicians, APPs, and nurses.
